Will there be a seventh Biennial Photojournalism? For Enrique Villaseñor, founder and coordinator of the first 12 years of the competition, their fate is in the hands of the community.
The future of the ever-controversial contest is called into question by Villasenor surrounding the publication of the catalog and multimedia in the sixth Biennial Photojournalism (2005), whose second presentation will speak Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, Laura and Alfredo Gonzalez Cid, the August 3rd at 19:30 at the Centro de la Imagen (Plaza de la Ciudadela 2, Central).
In that event, Villasenor will publish "information about the immediate future of the biennial," meanwhile, carried his feelings about the event which has been his "life project". While the biennial "not only is the competition," there are also publications, as Villasenor says, although the competition is what gives you greater projection.
For its coordinator, however, it has to rethink "as a guild," in form of organization, to evolve.
He explains: "We will not depend on me, the decision whether or not there will be, but how the guild is reorganized to give strength to the competition. If there is a new version, which will ask members of the advisory council for the sixth biennial if they want to continue. "
- Can there be a seventh Biennial without competition?
-It might be the case, other activities, other exhibitions, publication or could it be that the more competition. For me, the competition has been very complex, because I had required almost full time for many years. Now I have my work plans for staff, as well as pursue a doctorate.
"The contest will decide what colleagues, and if you meditate. And if I'm invited to join, I'll do gladly, and if not, what support it anyway. But I have to decide in the short term, because it's time to see if they will call. "
A focal point is the financing. So far the Biennial Photojournalism has worked through the supports "permanent" National Fund for Culture and the Arts. The publication of the catalog called the effort of many people.
