The Mexico of the '50s, his characters, architecture and fashion, will be appreciated in the exhibition "The instant light. Diego Rivera and other artists, through the photographic gaze of Juan Guzman "in the Art Museum of Queretaro.

Queretano sponsored by the Institute of Culture and the Arts, the exhibition will open on Thursday and has a series of images that are part of the collection of Guzman, acquired in 1991 by the Institute of Aesthetic Research of UNAM.

In that are photographic portraits which highlight the face and character of the characters perpetuated by the master of the lens during his walk through the Mexico 50 years ago.

According to information Queretano Institute of Culture and the Arts, Hans Gutmann was born in Cologne, Germany in 1911, and the extension of Nazism left his country in the early thirties, settling in Spain, where he lived the War Civil (1936-39).

In 1940 the artist arrived in Mexico, where Castilianize your name: Juan Guzman, and years later acquired Mexican nationality.

Worked as a freelance photographer for magazines and newspapers, to the Mexican state institutions and individuals, where there were many of the portraits included in the exhibition.

In these pictures, the author captures sharp features and attributes of the characters, and constitute a documentary record of the cultural personalities of the moment.

The presence of Juan Guzman is part of the cultural photojournalism from the 50 in Mexico, often determined by the novelty, direct communication and quick reading of the image.

His photographs offer a wide range of possibilities, from near a cutting edge treatment, to classical portraits where the character is treated with extreme caution in regard to the handling of light, the pose and the atmosphere.

In several pictures, Guzman with photographers and filmmakers share certain ways of presenting the characters, one of them is the use of hard light, which warns the taste for the high contrast lighting, which often causes an intended effect or unexpected.

In the archives of Juan Guzman is also everyday life caught in the streets and offices, in the struggle for survival and the fun that breaks the routine.

The plastic capacity and versatility as a photojournalist are perhaps the main features in the work of Guzman, and becomes as valuable as a file that documents a crucial period of Mexican reality, thanks to nearly 25 years of constant work.

The exhibition "The moment of light." Diego Rivera and other artists, through the photographic gaze of Juan Guzman, will be open until 10 August.
