Kodak announced the closure of two of its plants in Europe
Eastman Kodak Co. announced on June 30 to close two of its plants operating in Europe, according to data from Reuters. It also closed its operations in packed film in France, and the production of photographic chemicals in England.
"These actions are necessary in view of the low is in the business of traditional photography," said Tony Field, manager of the plant in Kirby, England. "The reality is that demand for our traditional business is declining, and our line of digital products is growing as more popular."
Kodak announced in 2004 a plan of reconstruction and consolidation that will reduce costs and decrease manufacturing operations in film products.
Kodak will have to cover about $ 57 million for closing the plant in France, and $ 37 million for the plant in England. More than 385 people will lose their jobs by the closure of two plants, according to Reuters.
