Chile photographic exhibition inaugurated in the Mexican Francisco Mata

Mexico's ambassador in Chile, Mario Leal, inaugurated in this capital an exhibition of Mexican photographer Francisco Mata, who under the name "Mexico-Tenochtitlan" evokes "the everyday and the mythical" of that American country.

Opening the show at Havana's Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho, Leal praised the work of Mata and said his photographic exhibition also calls to mind the present and past, existing and imaginary.

He argued that the photographs of Mata, "the presence of the Mexican leads to those who see them to see their own reality and their own lives differently."

"The people of Chile and the Mexican people's culture has united us for many years," added the Mexican diplomat, officially inaugurated the sample of 53 photographs of Mata.

Leal further recalled that the place that houses the exhibition of photojournalist and artist was in the 40s, when it still worked as a railway station-Mexican actor and singer Jorge Negrete, whose visit "revolutionized" the city's society.

The exhibition "Mexico-Tenochtitlan, which will be open until 12 October, is part of the cultural activities taking place in Chile for the celebration of 198 anniversary of Independence of Mexico.

In the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which took place yesterday in Mapocho Station, attended the British ambassador in Chile, Howard Drake, and Programming Director for Culture and Cultural Center, Mary Grace Valdes.
