Latin artist wins Hasselblad Award for Photography 2008 in Sweden
An American artist of the lens, which is not yet known the name, is the big winner of the International Photography Award 2008, which will announce the Hasselblad Foundation, the upcoming March 6, in Sweden, although the ceremony will be the Oct. 25.
This foundation, created to promote research and education in natural sciences and photography, stressed in a press release through the Swedish Embassy in Mexico, which is one of the greatest photographers of importance and influence during the past four decades.
"This photographer has preserved the history and tradition of visual culture and timeless rituals in this part of the world", refers to the text, which also adds that the winner will be disseminated online video in "www.hasselbladfoundation.org ".
It is also reported that the Hasselblad Prize awarded to a person by their exceptional track record photographic and the amount awarded will be 500 billion kronor, or about 80 thousand U.S. dollars.
It is also considered one of the most prestigious photography awards in the world and recognizes the value of a strong aesthetic sensibility in traditional and contemporary photography, and at the same time emphasizes the importance of the people who devote their lives to write history through the images.
In connection with the award will be presented an exhibition of the work of award-winning photographer at the Hasselblad Center, the Museum of Art in Sweden.
The most recent winners of this distinction is the American Nan Goldin (2007), the South African David Goldblatt (2006) and Lee Friedlander, also of the United States in 2005.
The foundation is named after Victor Hasselblad (1906-1978), creator of the world's most famous camera, which was used on the moon. In 1979, after his death, that organization was established in accordance with the last will and testament of Victor Hasselblad and his wife Erna.
