Photos of Drops

Photographing drops is easier than it seems, maybe the method I use is not the best but I was given good results, I was asked to comment on my photoblog as email and that's why I want to share it.

These photos are taken with a digital SLR camera with a very rapid response (or immediately) when you press the shutter button shooting, also known in English by "shutter lag, very important feature to calculate the moment of impact of the drop This is one of the most important differences between an SLR and a compact.

Here you can see the location of the camera and the necessary things.

  • [] Canon 350D (Rebel XT) with Sigma 70-300 lens, 36mm Kenko extension tube in order to focus more closely integrated and the flash of the camera.
  • [] Trigger remote.
  • [] Device drops Dispatcher :-) (the cover of a product with a small hole) tripie suspended in another.
  • [] Mailing envelopes that are used here to reflect the flash light and get better lighting.
  • [] Bowl with water which will impact drops.
  • You can use another type of lens or you can use this without the extension tube, it must depend on the distance to place the camera, the remote trigger is not necessary but makes things.

The parameters in the chamber were: Shutter Speed 1 / 200, opening 14.0, ISO 200, Focal length 70mm, Flash on and taken in RAW.

The hard part of this is the approach, I rarely autofocus works well so I have to use manual focus for which I have to put a reference to focus, in this case, my finger.

We can use artificial coloring, water and / or different viscosities of liquids, so we can get nice combinations.

That's all there is only need to shoot many pictures to capture a good one.

These would be the result using different colors of water and after passing by photoshop.

    Dear Mr.
I am a Catholic priest in Argentina and Professor of Law at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. I have thought about printing a book whose title is "Like a drop of water." The title was taken from a conference of the Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The book will have the limitation of only 2,000 copies and is aimed at people who attend some courses in spirituality. It is very difficult to find any allusion to the name shown on the cover of the issue and I have found in its magnificent site that some might choose to use one properly. The photographs I have seen there are the best of all existing pages. We ask you permission to use. In the case of affirmative answer, the book will be the name of the author of the picture. Also if I know the cost, given the destination.
I appreciate now whatever their decision, with a gentle urgency, since it is intended to publish it before April 7, when it starts Holy Week.
Sincerely grateful. Dr. Ariel David Busso
