Exhibition "World Press Photo" (Mexico)


The exhibition "World Press Photo", which rewards the best of photojournalism worldwide, will be exhibited in Mexico from October 12 at the Franz Mayer Museum of the historic center of the capital.

The sample includes 200 images documenting the major events last year such as sporting events and portraits.

Among winners were five photographers in the AP, which include the British best by Ben Curtis and U.S. Fotonoticias David Guttenfelder for the best photograph of general information.

For his part, Canadian Finbarr O'Reilly of Reuters won the prize for best picture of the year.

Each year an international jury composed of 13 members selected the images of thousands of photographers from newspapers, news agencies and magazines worldwide.

This time involving 4 thousand 448 professionals from 122 countries, which competed with 83 thousand 044 images.

As part of the opening of the exhibition, the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico conducted parallel National Photographic Competition on Human Rights on October 17.

"The contest aims to bring the public to human rights issues as well as through photographs show the human rights situation in Mexico," the commission said in a press release.

The exhibition "World Press Photo is displayed simultaneously in cities such as Caracas, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Toronto, Amsterdam and Shanghai, among others.
