Jalapa, Ver., May 21. As if it were a religious pilgrimage, which in this case evidenciaría a devotion to the photographic image, this Friday in a marathon tour that lasted almost four hours and opened seven exhibitions in as many museums and galleries in the center of this city, started festival on 13 June: Month of Photography in Jalapa.
This traditional communion around the photograph, which will last until June 17, now pays tribute to Graciela Iturbide, who shares a La Jornada:
"I'm very excited. It's fantastic work that the organizers do here for photography. The montages and the quality of the museum is excellent and not asking anything in other parts of the world. It's my first tribute and did not know what that was. "
To be in Jalapa, Iturbide announced a few days his return from Rome, a city that travels and photography during this year and of which he edited a book and it mounted an exhibition, invited by a Catholic organization and humanitarian.
Talk about the moment in which it finds itself. "For four years I am exploring themes that had not done, such as the botanical garden of Oaxaca, who are tied on plants by man, as in therapy. I started to do this job invited by the painter Francisco Toledo. It is a very different to what he had done with the women of Juchitan, the Seris or other peoples of Mexico.
"When I was surprised when achieving a good image. The day that I am not surprised with a place or do things just because yeah, I think I will not be a photographer. As for the art, I remain with the analog method, I'm very conservative in that sense, I love the quality that has the photographic paper. "
